Beyond her clinical contributions, Dr. Evans co-founded the Ronald McDonald House Charities, creating housing programs that allow families to stay close to hospitalized children during treatment. Her legacy continues to shape pediatric cancer care and family-centered support in hospitals worldwide.
Ophthalmologist Patricia Bath made history as the first Black woman physician in the United States to receive a medical patent. She invented the Laserphaco Probe, a technology used to remove cataracts and restore vision for patients around the world. Her work expanded access to eye care and advanced treatment for blindness.
In 1990, Antonia Novello became the first woman and the first Hispanic physician to serve as the Surgeon General of the United States. She focused on major public health challenges, including HIV/AIDS awareness, youth smoking prevention, and healthcare access for underserved communities.
